Why leverage betting loses money faster than anything else

A normal sports bet or casino hand settles once. A leveraged Up/Down bet settles the moment the market moves far enough against you, and at high leverage “far enough” is almost nothing.

At 1000x, a move of roughly 0.1% against your position wipes out the entire stake. Bitcoin moves 0.1% in seconds on an ordinary afternoon. That is before Moon’s 1% opening fee, the holding fee charged every 8 hours, and the spread Moon’s terms reserve in its own favor. The other difference is speed. Moon runs 24/7, bets open and close in seconds, and the interface is built to be quick. There is no natural pause between one bet and the next unless you create one.

Warning signs to take seriously

Read these honestly. Two or more usually means it is time to stop.

• You reopen a bet immediately after a liquidation to “win it back.”
• You keep raising the leverage because lower multiples feel too slow.
• You deposit more than you planned, more than once.
• You hide how much you have lost from a partner or friend.
• You bet with money set aside for rent, bills or debt.
• You feel restless or irritable when you are not in a position.
• You borrow, sell things or use credit to fund deposits.
• Betting has stopped being entertainment and become a way to fix a problem betting created.

What Moon offers

Moon does not have a standalone responsible gambling page. Its tools are described in section 4.8 of the Moon terms of service:

• Take a Break: lock yourself out for anywhere from 1 day to 3 months.
• Self-exclusion: a minimum of 6 months, or permanent.

Both are requested through your account or Moon support. If you use self-exclusion, treat it as final: the whole point is that it cannot be undone on a bad night.

We have not seen deposit or loss limits described in Moon’s terms. That means the limits below are ones you set and enforce yourself.

Practical rules that actually work

Set a deposit limit before you deposit. Pick a monthly figure you could lose entirely without it changing anything in your life. Write it down. When it is gone, you are done until next month.

Set a time limit. Decide how long a session is before you open one, and stop when the timer goes, win or lose.

Never chase a liquidation. A liquidation is not a near miss. It is the bet ending as designed. Reopening at the same size with the same leverage is the single most common way a small loss becomes a large one.

Use play money first, and go back to it. Moon offers a play-money mode. If you want to test an idea or scratch the itch, that is where to do it.

Never borrow to bet. Not from a credit card, not from a friend, not from next month’s budget. If you are considering it, you have already answered the question of whether to continue.

Lower the leverage. If you are going to bet at all, 10x is not “boring”: it means you survive a 10% move instead of a 0.1% one.
